How we research

Most review sites say they tested everything. We did not test everything, so we will not say that. Here is what we actually do.

What we do not do

We do not own these tubs. We have not filled them, sat in them, or run them through a winter. Nobody on this site has. If a page ever says a product was tested, it will name who tested it and for how long.

We also do not accept free units in exchange for a good review, and no brand sees a page before it goes live.

What we do instead

Every pick starts from five sources.

  1. Spec sheets. Capacity, size, weight, material, power draw and rated temperature. We pull these from the listing and the manufacturer, and we note when the two disagree.
  2. Manuals and setup docs. These tell you what the sales page does not, like whether a chiller needs its own circuit or how often a filter has to be changed.
  3. Warranty and return terms. A one year warranty on a $2,000 tub is a different purchase than a five year one. We read the fine print, including what voids it.
  4. Owner reports. We read through verified reviews looking for the same complaint said three different ways. One angry review is noise. Thirty people reporting the same seam failure is a finding.
  5. Price history. We track what a product actually sells for over time, not just today's number.

How we pick winners

We do not rank one to ten. Every product on a list wins one specific job, because the best tub for a 6 foot 4 athlete is not the best tub for someone with a small balcony.

A product only makes a list if we can name a real person it suits better than anything else on that page. If we cannot, it comes off.

Where this falls short

Desk research cannot tell you how a tub feels after six months, whether a seam creeps, or how loud a chiller is at 6am. We flag those gaps on every review in a box that says what we could not check.

For a purchase over about $1,000, use this site to build your shortlist, then go sit in one at a local studio or gym before you commit.

Why we do not show prices

Prices on these products move weekly. Rather than print a number that goes stale, we show a price range and send you to the live listing. That way what you see is what you pay.

When we update

We recheck specs and links on a rolling basis and stamp every page with the date it was last checked. If a product is discontinued we pull it from the lists rather than leave a dead link behind.

Tell us when we get it wrong

If you own one of these and our write-up does not match your experience, we want to hear it. Corrections make the next reader's decision better.
